Dana Matar: From Architect to Ultra Running Pioneer

Dana Matar’s journey from architect to ultra-running pioneer reflects passion, purpose, and a deep connection for the outdoors. Inspired by early adventures with scouts and the diverse landscape of the UAE, Dana channeled her passion into ultra-running—a sport that challenged her limits and revealed a broader mission.

Recognizing a gap in organized trail racing in the UAE, Dana made the bold decision to leave her corporate career and co-found Peaks Sports, where she now serves as CEO. The company has since become a trailblazing force in the regional running scene, organizing inclusive, professionally-managed races across varied terrains—from accessible 5km events to demanding 100km ultras.

Peaks Sports is registered with the International Trail Running Association (ITRA), and its events contribute to the UTMB Index, positioning them on the global trail running map. Among its flagship events is the G.O.A.T Ultra Trail Race, which has joined the ranks of the One Hundred World Championship series—marking a significant milestone for the sport in the Middle East.

Dana’s vision extends beyond races; she is committed to building a lasting impact on the community by fostering a culture of endurance, environmental respect, and inclusivity in sport. Her journey reflects more than a career shift—it’s a movement toward transforming landscapes into arenas of personal growth, self-discovery, and community-driven success.
