Today we shine a light on one of our inspiring Run Show ambassadors, Noor Elakhdar, whose running journey began not out of passion at first, but out of purpose. What started in 2023 as a way to develop her triathlon skills quickly grew into a powerful source of confidence, strength and self-discovery.

Noor’s story is honest and refreshingly relatable. She speaks about the early challenges, the mindset shifts that brought her progress, and the joy she has found in building consistency. Her perspective reflects what so many new and experienced runners feel along the way.

In this spotlight interview, she shares the lessons that shaped her, the routines that keep her grounded, and the mindset that helps her push through tough moments. Her voice carries a mix of calm, resilience and optimism that embodies the spirit of the UAE running community.

Tell us a bit about your running journey – how did it all begin?

My journey started in 2023 when I discovered triathlon and realized I needed to build my running skills. What began as something I had to do slowly became something I wanted to do. The early miles were challenging, but they opened a door to confidence and strength I didn’t know I had.

What does running mean to you personally?

Running is my space to breathe, reset, and connect with myself. It gives me               freedom and discipline at the same time. It clears my mind and reminds me that progress comes from showing up, not being perfect.

What’s been your proudest running achievement so far?

My biggest achievement is the transformation itself—becoming someone who can go out, run, and keep improving. Every distance I reach, every race I finish, feels like a personal victory.

How do you approach motivation – especially on tough days?

I focus on commitment, not mood. Motivation comes and goes, but habits stay. I remind myself of my goals on tough days and celebrate small wins that prove I’m growing.

What does your typical training week look like?

I balance running with swimming and cycling. My week usually includes:

A long run for endurance (mostly choosing a community race to save days to train for cycling and swimming as I am a triathlete.) An interval or tempo session for speed. A recovery run to stay loose. Strength and mobility work. It’s structured but flexible, because I listen to my body.

How do you prepare before a big race – mentally and physically?

I taper my training, dial in nutrition, and get plenty of rest. I visualize the course and remind myself that I’ve earned my spot at the start line. On race morning, I focus on staying calm and trusting my training.

What’s your number one tip for runners looking to improve performance?

Focus on consistency, not perfection. Small, steady improvements build more progress than trying to push too hard all at once. Show up regularly, listen to your body, and trust the process. When you stay consistent—no matter your pace, challenges, or starting point—performance naturally follows.

What’s your go-to recovery routine after a long run or race?

Hydration, refuelling, stretching, and rest. I also take a moment to reflect on how far I’ve come and the effort I put in.

What’s the biggest lesson running has taught you about life?

Progress isn’t always smooth or easy. Some days feel strong, others feel heavy—but both days count. The real lesson is to keep moving.

How do you balance discipline and enjoyment in your training?

I stick to my plan, but I also let myself enjoy the process—whether it’s taking a scenic route, running without tracking, or celebrating small improvements. Discipline builds consistency, but joy keeps me going. When things get tough mid-race, what keeps you pushing forward?

When things get tough mid-race, what keeps you pushing forward?

I think about how far I’ve come and how much I’ve worked for this moment. I remind myself that discomfort is temporary but finishing is forever. I push for the version of me I’m becoming.

Do you believe running is more physical or mental?

For me, it’s more mental. The mind decides when to start and when not to give up. Physical strength matters, but mental strength gets you across the finish line.

How has the running community impacted your journey?

It’s been incredibly supportive. The encouragement, the shared struggles, and the feeling of belonging mean everything. It reminds me that I’m not alone on this journey.

What do you think makes the UAE running scene unique?

The diversity. People from everywhere, at all levels, share the same roads. The early-morning energy, the stunning routes, and the community spirit make it special. Everyone belongs here.

What advice would you give to someone just joining a run club for the first time?

Don’t worry about pace or comparing yourself. Just show up and be yourself. Everyone was new once, and most runners are friendly and supportive. A run club is about community, not perfection.

What’s your must-have piece of running gear or tech?

A good pair of running shoes—nothing matters more. For tech, my watch helps track progress without overwhelming me.

How has technology (like wearables or apps) changed your approach to training?

It helps me train smarter. Tracking pace, heart rate, and recovery helps me understand my body better. But I also make sure to enjoy running without getting too attached to numbers.

Who inspires you most in the running world?

I’m inspired by runners who show resilience—people who push through challenges, whether mental, physical, or developmental. Their courage reminds me that every runner’s story is meaningful, including mine.

What are your running goals for the year ahead?

Build more endurance, improve my pacing, stay consistent in triathlon training, and keep enjoying the process. Staying injury-free and reaching new distances are top priorities.
