Today we’re spotlighting one of our Run Show ambassadors who truly lives and breathes the movement.
Ram Sadhvani has been part of the UAE running community for more than a decade, building his journey from an accidental long run to marathons, ultras, Ironman 70.3, ocean swims and Hyrox competitions. His energy, consistency and belief in the power of community make him a standout voice in the scene.
In this interview, Ram opens up about his beginnings, what running means to him, the lessons he’s learned along the way and the mindset that keeps him moving forward. Whether you’re a new runner or deep into your own training, Ram’s perspective is packed with honesty, humour and the kind of motivation that only comes from lived experience.
Tell us a bit about your running journey – how did it all begin?
I started running long distance in 2011 by accident on a weekend. I woke up with a headache and coudn’t sleep. I decided to go any check out the local running club I had heard of. That first run was a total hook and there was no turning back. I went ahead and did my first marathon in 2012. This went a bit further to many full marathons & ultras. Running also led me to few Ironman 70.3, Oceanman 10k sea swim, Hyrox. I blame it all on the running.
What does running mean to you personally?
Running is a peaceful conversation with myself. The exhaustion with raised heart rate is the calmest part of my day.
What’s been your proudest running achievement so far?
Celebrating my 45th birthday running a 90km race in Durban S.A – Comrades 2018
How do you approach motivation – especially on tough days?
Running and being active is an integral part of my day. Rest days are more of an effort for me. I normally pack up for the morning ahead the night before. This helps win the lethargic thought if any at wake up time.
What does your typical training week look like?
My week is a mix of 2 runs, 2 swims, 3 hyrox sessions
How do you prepare before a big race – mentally and physically?
I am a believer of manifestation. Accept and believe it within and it’ll happen. Physically is just a training block.
What’s your number one tip for runners looking to improve performance?
Focus big on nutrition, recovery and strength work. Just running won’t give the results.
What’s your go-to recovery routine after a long run or race?
Protein snack right after the run. Remove and shoes and wear open toe footwear. Change your outfit. All of these are quick measures to start the recovery right away.
What’s the biggest lesson running has taught you about life?
There is an end to everything. You have to just keep moving and push through
How do you balance discipline and enjoyment in your training?
When you run you run. When you party, you party. Don’t spoil either for the other.
When things get tough mid-race, what keeps you pushing forward?
There is an end to this. Just keep going.
Do you believe running is more physical or mental?
Surely mental
How has the running community impacted your journey?
It’s been the pillar of my building confidence and strength. My community has shown me new horizons beyond my thought limitations
What do you think makes the UAE running scene unique?
The diversity, infrastructure is unmatched from anywhere in the world. Dubai has repeatedly shown their vision as leaders by making running surface tracks extending beyond 100km across the city. The Mallathon (Running was allowed in 8 malls for one month) this year was a fantastic initiative making summer running so much more comfortable and achievable. Free to use water fountains, showers, toilets add value to the sport. All this value is c/o of the local authorities.
What advice would you give to someone just joining a run club for the first time?
Don’t join. It’ll change your life. Hahhahhaha …. Buckle Up!! – It will be a never expected ride of your life. It will change you forever with better health, peace, and mindset.
What’s your must-have piece of running gear or tech?
Proper running outfit and shoes. Wrong gear just ruins the experience. Tech wearables are just an added prop. I take them more as social media, peer pressure, etc
How has technology (like wearables or apps) changed your approach to training?
Initially, I was totally driven by the analytics of the data provided by the wearables. I have had my share of OCD with data and dynamics of running. I have moved on to a no watch, just run method. No data is good data.
Who inspires you most in the running world?
The average Joe & Jane. They come into the sport completely oblivious looking for some cardio or weight loss work. They have taken their health in their own hands. They have taken the biggest step of coming. Big respect
What are your running goals for the year ahead?
Keep on running for the joy of it. Travel to different places with friends to run.
What excites you most about The Run Show coming to Dubai?
It’s a great platform where all brands and communities come under one roof. Most of us are either associated with or loyal to one brand or community. Many of us have no idea what the others are doing. This will be a good eye opener for many. This will also unify the running community.
Ram’s journey is a reminder of what running gives us when we show up with intention and keep moving forward. From community support to personal breakthroughs, he captures the spirit of the UAE running scene – diverse, driven and constantly evolving.
We are proud to have him as part of The Run Show ambassador team and even prouder to share his story with our wider community.
Thank you, Ram, for your insight, your energy and your commitment to lifting others up along the way.
