Sweat Strong LogoWhen Sweat Strong Run Club launched in July 2024, it was built on a simple but powerful idea. Anyone, regardless of fitness level or experience, deserves a community that shows up for them. Less than two years later, that idea has grown into one of Dubai's most vibrant running communities, with around 550 members lining up for everything from their first 5km to the Berlin Marathon.

We sat down with the team behind Sweat Strong to find out what makes their club tick, why inclusivity is at the heart of everything they do, and what they believe the future of running culture in the UAE looks like.

Tell us a bit about your club – when did it start and what inspired its creation?

Our club started in July 2024. We saw many people wanted to begin fitness and running but lacked motivation or a supportive group. So we created a space where anyone could start and stay consistent together.

What makes your run club unique?

We have members from beginner level to expert level, and everyone is treated equally. Whether someone runs 3 km or 42 km, the respect and support are the same.

How would you describe your community in three words?

Supportive. Inclusive. Strong.

What’s a typical run session like with your club?

We do structured sessions twice a week. Tuesdays are speed intervals and Thursdays are hill sessions, suitable for different pace groups.

How many members do you currently have, and what distances or types of running do you focus on?

We have about 550 members. Our main focus is long distance running, especially half marathon and marathon training.

What does the running community in Dubai mean to you?

It is a place where people support each other and grow together through teamwork and shared goals.

How has your club helped bring runners together – especially new or first-time runners?

Many new runners in our club have completed their first 5 km and even half marathons. Training together makes people confident and consistent.

Do you have any special traditions, post-run rituals or memorable community events?

After runs, we often sit together for tea and snacks. These relaxed moments help friendships grow beyond running.

What role do you think running plays in building a stronger, healthier local community?

Running brings people together from different backgrounds with a common goal. It improves physical and mental health and builds discipline, positivity, and connection in the community.

How do you encourage inclusivity within your club – from beginners to seasoned athletes?

We support every runner by pacing with them, running beside them, sharing success stories, and helping them set personal goals. Everyone progresses at their own level.

What’s been one of your proudest moments as a club?

This season our members completed major events like ADNOC Marathon, Dubai Marathon, Berlin Marathon, and GOAT Trail Run. Seeing members achieve big goals together is very special.

Do you have a favourite local race or route in the UAE?

Our favourite place to run is Al Warqa Park. It is safe, scenic, and perfect for group training. Favourite race is Dubai Marathon.

How do you think events like The Run Show can help strengthen the running community in the UAE?

The Run Show helps runners learn technical aspects of training, meet elite athletes, discover new brands, connect with other run clubs, and gain knowledge about running.

What advice would you give to someone thinking of joining a run club for the first time?

Just join and experience the support. Run clubs in the UAE are very welcoming and encouraging for all levels.

How do you see running culture evolving in the UAE over the next few years?

We believe the UAE will see a big increase in strong runners, and more elite athletes will emerge from the community.

What’s next for your club – any big goals, events or collaborations on the horizon?

Some members are preparing for Ironman, Boston Marathon, and 100 mile trail races. At the same time, many new runners are getting ready for their first 5 km. Every journey is equally exciting for us.
